Under the conduction of maestro Diego Naser, the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra (OFCM) held a masterful concert with a program that included the works “Francesca da Rimini”, Op. 32, by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky and “Transfigured Night”, Op. 4; two great symphonic poems that address the theme of women, a pertinent reflection where the man relates to her, and that comes just in such turbulent times that are lived day by day in our society.

The concert was held on Saturday, February 15 and 16, at the Sala Silvestre Revueltas of the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City.

Regarding Francesca da Rimini, Op. 32, by Piotr Ilyich Chaikovski (1840-1893), the work is based on the story of Francesca and Paolo Malatesta, characters from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, who are serving sentences in hell for his love. And “Transfigured Night”, Op. 4 by Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951), is based on a text by Richard Dehmel about a woman who decides to be a single mother, facing social conventions and finding love in a man who values her for her convictions.

In this regard, Naser affirmed that “music is capable of posing and accompanying, over the years, the great challenges and the greatest questions in the world, today more than ever.”
