Uruguayan-Italian conductor Diego Naser is building significant international momentum following a series of highly acclaimed recent engagements in Spain, Chile and Brazil, combining a strong command of the Austro-German symphonic tradition with a distinctive affinity for twentieth- and twenty-first-century repertoire.In June 2026, Naser conducted Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 Resurrection at L’Auditori in Barcelona, leading the ESMUC Symphony Orchestra and combined choirs in a sold-out performance. He subsequently made his debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Chile in Santiago, conducting Schnittke’s Viola Concerto with Vladimir Babeshko and Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 Spring. His debut drew exceptional critical acclaim, with the Círculo de Críticos de Arte describing the concert as “a stellar moment of the season” and calling for his return. In the same period, Naser returned to Brazil to conduct the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre.His growing presence in Spain continues with his forthcoming debut with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, featuring Stefan Dohr and Maxim Lando.Naser previously served as Music and Artistic Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay (OSSODRE) from 2018 to 2020 and subsequently as Music and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Boca del Río–Veracruz in Mexico. He has conducted orchestras including the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Mexico City Philharmonic, Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB) and National Philharmonic Orchestra of Lebanon.His repertoire encompasses the central symphonic tradition, including complete Beethoven and Brahms cycles and major works by Mahler, Bruckner, Schubert, Schumann, Dvořák and Tchaikovsky. Alongside this repertoire, Naser has developed a particular affinity for twentieth- and twenty-first-century music, conducting works by Berg, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Schnittke, Gabriela Ortiz, Alberto Ginastera, Arturo Márquez, Silvestre Revueltas and Esteban Benzecry. He also conducts the orchestra of the Urtext Contemporary Music Festival in Mexico City, further reflecting his sustained engagement with contemporary repertoire.His work extends to opera, ballet and large-scale vocal repertoire, including Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Carmina Burana, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide and The Rite of Spring.Originally trained as a violinist and violist in Uruguay, Austria and Germany, Naser graduated as a violist from the Hamburg Conservatory before developing his conducting career. He is Professor of Orchestral Conducting at ESMUC in Barcelona and has taught internationally at institutions including the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the Academia Orquestal of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Conservatorio de Música Inocente Carreño in Caracas.
